VoTech Project

Building Confidence & Picnic Tables

Each semester a new section of freshmen get to take Vocational Technologies class. Taught by Andrew Boaz, the goals of this class are to expose students to carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing skills. One of the course goals is to enhance students' career prospects through hands-on experience.

Each student that takes this class has a new understanding of how they are able to save money by fixing small issues around their homes by themselves. After graduation, students have used the knowledge taught in Vo-Tech to get jobs and do mission work. Students who excel in this class go on to intern in our maintenance department on campus through our Life Skills Practicum.

If you have stopped by campus, you may have seen our picnic tables. One of the exciting projects the class works on every year is building picnic tables. After completion, they are used outside of the cafeteria and are occasionally spread out under the trees for students to enjoy studying outdoors.

These 6’x4’ tables are stained in a variety of colors and available for purchase for $150 each. This price only covers the cost of materials, as the supplies and tools used for class are mostly donated second- or third-hand items or scrap wood from other projects. We welcome more quality supplies (new or like-new items are requested) for our students to use.

If you are interested in purchasing a table or making a donation to support Vo-Tech, please contact Bette Patterson in the business office: 573-682-2164 ext.203 or vpfinance@sunnydale.org.
